The nickname Scout came about when her mother, a D-list actress best known for her work in cheesy horror films from the 70s, was pregnant with Scout and developed a semi-obsession with Harper Lee's classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as the young tomboy protagonist of the story. It seems that Scout's name was somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy, because whilst growing up she constantly refused to wear the pretty dresses and baubles given to her for all of the prestigious Hollywood events she was expected to attend as the daughter of such a filmmaking talent such as her father. In fact, Scout has always preferred the company of the male gender, with only several lucky ladies being counted among her true friends. However, once puberty struck and Scout developed into a beautiful young woman, her interest in more typical teenage girl activities came through, and she spent most of her high school years partying with good friend and fellow entertainer Adella Burnshaw. While her interest in the Hollywood life grew, so did her interest in acting, and it was in 1999 at the tender age of 17 that Scout landed her first role as Laney Boggs in the teen hit "She's All That!" After that, she took a brief three year hiatus to pursue her college education, but by her Junior year at Columbia, she realized that college wasn't the place for her, and she dropped out to play the role of Juliet in "Romeo + Juliet."
